oh my.   The Pern books were the fantasy series of books that got me through middle school and high school.   
Yes, I read Tolkein, too, but the Pern books — the original trilogy and the Harper Hall trilogy — those were where my fantasy roots incubated and grew.

Oh me too!  Very much so.  I read them over and over again.
